Fapa usually only trades at the top end of the market, but makes a number of much cheaper products under its 'Rack System' brand.
The Rack System bars are outstanding value. They have a 2 year guarantee and are well made, strong, sturdy, easily fitted, adequately rust proofed, TUV approved, and supplied ready to fit - just place them on the roof and turn the Allen key! All tools and fixings are supplied. Except for the roof rail crossbars (red writing) they aren't lockable, but many of these bars can't be removed if the car doors are locked.
Please note that these 'Rack System' bars are 36mm wide, so only the following bike carriers from our product range will fit to them: Fapa EUROBIKE, Fapa VELO, Thule Freeride 575.
If you want a set of locking crossbars, please click here to check whether you need Type A or Type B.
Fapa's 'PORTER' modular roof bar system is well engineered, solidly made, and looks good, with an overall feel which is at least one division ahead of all the other mid-market roof bars we've looked at over the years. PORTER bars are TÜV approved and have a 5 year guarantee. The fitting kits tend to be completely covered in 'Pebax', a high-tech copolymer compound which is hard to the touch but is flexible enough to provide the protection required where the roof bars touch the car; Atera, Fapa and Thule all use Pebax in their roof bar systems.
You need to order two components: (1) a pair of Fapa standard size 32mm x 22mm plastic-covered rustproofed steel bars and (2) a vehicle specific fitting kit which joins the bars to the roof. There are kits for a wide range of cars, so it should prove to be good long term value, i.e. you may just need to change your fitting kit when you change your car.
