Best budget box?

Kar Rite's 380 roof boxes have been our best selling budget boxes for several years now. They're a really useful size, side opening from the near side, and of decent quality. The lid shape changes from time to time - the latest version is the Kar Rite Odyssey 380 - not to be confused with the better quality Atera Odyssey series!

Auto Express roof box test 2008:  Auto Express have given their Best Buy award to a KAMEI box for the second time in a row, this time to the Corvara 390K DuoLift (prices from £244.95) - see NEWS for further information.

By common consent KAMEI (Germany) makes the best quality and best engineered boxes on the market; they never go wrong, and they keep on looking good well beyond their 6 year guarantee period.  The last major breakthrough in box design was KAMEI's "pull to shut" central locking system. Their new DuoLift system is just as clever, but if you don't want to pay the extra for the dual side opening we have limited stock of all three box sizes in right hand side opening format.

KAMEI's Delphin 380 (£179.95) took the second prize, and the Karrite Contour 380 (£129.00) took 3rd prize - this has now been replaced by the Karrite Odyssey 380, the same base and fittings but a different shaped lid.

Autoform Denver 650

Several manufacturers claim to have the "biggest box on the market", but when you compare both the cartons and the boxes side by side, it's evident that Autoform's Denver 650 takes this prize. Please don't order these huge boxes unless you have somewhere to store them - we have really too many exchanges in this size, often due to storage problems.


Double the space!

If you want the huge capacity but also maximum flexibility, give serious thought to using 2 boxes! One for wet, one for dry? Take one off to leave space for bike carriers? The KAMEI 300s incorporate all the features of the award winning KAMEI Delphin range. From time to time, stock permitting, they'll also feature in our package deals.

New Atera Odyssey series

Atera's Odyssey boxes have been comprehensively redesigned and upgraded for 2008, with specifications that place them in the Thule Atlantis league for all round quality. They have a contemporary and individual design which combines strength with practicality - the design brief was that they should be "robust, attractive, secure, spacious". They've been thoroughly tested and approved by the German TÜV, including "City Crash testing" which is becoming a norm in our sector. They all have a 75kg load limit and a 5 year guarantee, and some also have dual side opening.

The highlight of the range is the Atera Odyssey 820 (£219.95), a good all round family luggage carrier which should allow space on the roof bars for at least one bike carrier, especially if fitted to aerobars, and will take carving skis to 185cm. It's also available as a package deal, this box and whichever Atera or Thule roof bars you need, locks included, for only £249.95!
