This superb example of engineering oozed quality. What's more, it came ready assembled, with locks to hold cycle to carrier and carrier to roof bars, and being aluminium weighed only 3kg. The clamp was reassuringly simple to adjust as well as being coated with rubber to protect the bike. All fittings were the quick-release variety and three plastic tethers held things in place. Unbeatable and our
roof-mounted Best Buy.

Verdict

The Atera Giro beat the Mont Blanc Barracuda to take top spot in the roof-mounted class as it cost less. In the rear-mounted group, Thule's sturdy 9107 Clip-on High won easily!

We had no hesitation in voting this carrier Best Buy, even though it was the most expensive. It came in total kit form, which meant it took a while to assemble, but it had superior build quality. Fitted to the tailgate with metal arms top and bottom, there was no danger of slipping, and you could open the hatch with the device in place - but try and remember not to do this when holding a bike. The winner from our rear-mounted racks.
