It’s been obvious
to us for many years now that KAMEI makes the best quality roof boxes available
anywhere, but it’s always very pleasing when this is confirmed
by the product testers. Auto Express
have given their Best Buy award to a KAMEI box for the second time in a row,
this time to the Corvara 390K DuoLift silver:
"This is close to being the perfect roofbox.
It’s well made from thick plastic and all lock clips and clamps are
metal – which improves durability and security. KAMEI includes a six-year
guarantee, and maximum load weight is an impressive 75kg. Both sides open,
and the central locking system is great – turning the lock frees all
three catches, but they can latch independently, too."
It’s also noteworthy that the Auto Express testers managed to fit more of their luggage into this 390 litre box than into boxes as big as 440 litres. How come? It’s down to KAMEI’s low profile quick fitting box to bar fittings which maximise the available space in the box, and also the shape of the box which cleverly combines usability with great looks – KAMEI has a 55 year heritage in car styling and vehicle aerodynamics, and makes use of the VW wind tunnel facilities at Wolfsburg as required.
A Corvara series box also won Germany’s recent ADAC roof box test which
involved high speed manoeuvring and braking as well as a 30km/h City Crash
test.
The KAMEI Corvara 390K
DuoLift is available in silver,
metallic black and
‘titanium metallic’,
a deep silver-grey. There are 310 litre and 475 litre boxes in the same
family, and all the boxes are also available with right hand side opening
only (silver, metallic
black and titanium
metallic) if you don’t want to pay the premium for the ‘DuoLift’
dual-side opening system.
The Runner Up
The KAMEI Delphin 380 is the replacement for the Delphin 375, the previous Auto Express “Best Buy” roof box. It’s a completely new box, a new lid on a new base, with KAMEI’s superb “Comfort Sliding Fitting”, a low profile box to bars fitting system. Which? rated the Delphin 375 as the most secure and the most waterproof roof box in their 2007 test – the new Delphin 380 is just as well made, and is available in both left hand opening format and right hand opening format.
“Quality is excellent – the plastic is
easily the sturdiest in the group, and all lock catches are metal. These
are self-latching, but there isn’t a single-point release as found on
the Corvara. However, this drawback is more than made up for by the ease of
closing the box when loaded."
