Dog Bag Medium

Code: EBDBM_01

Dog Bag is fundamentally a much gentler, warmer, and all round snugger refuge for a pet than a steel cage or a plastic crate. The base is square rather than rectangular so it takes up less space in the boot of the car, and the top of it squashes down in low ceiling cars. Take the Dog Bag Medium out of its rucksack, unfold it, and you have a very strong 75cm x 75cm x 80cm high kennel.

What’s Dog Bag?

  • A flexible dog transport system, designed for a dog’s safety and comfort
  • A portable “home from home” that helps dogs to settle down quickly
  • Easy to use and full of good features
  • A long lasting product of outstanding quality

Dog Bag 'Medium' should be fixed to the car boot tie-down points using the quick fit clips provided, or - ideal for saloon car drivers - fixed to the rear seats using the seat belts provided. (An inflatable Foot-well Filler set is available to ensure that your dog is properly supported if your Dog Bag is wider than the car seat.) Alternatively, it can be pegged down into grass or sand.

Take the Dog Bag out of its rucksack, unfold it, and you have a very strong 75cm x 75cm x 80cm high kennel (approximately 30" x 30" x 32"), supported by integral sprung steel hoops.

The rucksack is 40cm high x 30cm wide x 20cm deep (approximately 16" x 12" x 8") - ideal for hanging on a coat hook when not in use, or storing in the boot of the car. It includes two large accessories pockets, a carrying handle as well as shoulder straps, and is made to the same quality and component specification as the Dog Bag, i.e.

  • waterproof Heavy Duty Fabric
  • fully fabric-taped double-sewn seams
  • toggled extra strong YKK zips.

It shouldn't take more than 45 seconds to fold up your Dog Bag and place it back into its rucksack.

The following accessories are available:

  • an Open Air kit (pegs, and a water-proof cover)
  • a North Pole kit (a quilted liner and wind-proof sides)
  • a Mud and Snow kit to keep the normal bedding dry
  • a specially designed tent (open fronted)

Delivery charges and arrangements:

We charge a contribution towards delivery costs, depending on what you order, where you live, and how quickly you want the goods.

For most UK addresses, the charge for our two to three day service is £5.50 (£9.50 for orders including a roof box) and our charge for Next Working Day deliveries is £8.50 (£12.50 for orders involving a roof box). AutoSock, shoe chains, RUD i-Sock, and small spare parts, are charged £3.95 (Royal Mail Tracked), £4.95 (Royal Mail Express Tracked) or £5.95 (express courier, usually Next Working Day).

There are different charges for any delivery including a sea crossing, and deliveries to Skye - we will contact you with a quote on receipt of order.

Orders for Next Working Day delivery need to be received by 4.00pm.

There are no deliveries on Saturdays, Sundays or Bank Holidays, except for postable items where Royal Mail has a Saturday delivery. Next Working Day orders placed on a Friday will be delivered on the Monday, Next Working Day orders placed on a Saturday will be delivered on the Tuesday.

We are very flexible with our deliveries and will aim to deliver on a day and at an address which suits you. Goods can usually be left without signature - we prefer this with roof boxes. There's a "Special Delivery Instructions" box in the checkout area where we'll ask you to choose a typical instruction and then amend it to suit your particular requirements.

No retailer or courier company can ever "guarantee" a Next Working Day delivery. All courier companies occasionally have the same transport problems as can happen to everyone else, including snow blocked roads, closed roads, traffic jams, mechanical breakdown, an inability to find the delivery address, or to gain access to it if, for example, it's in a block of flats. We work with some of the best couriers in the business, and overall they provide an outstanding service.

The Dog Bag Story

Dog Bag was designed by two Italian dog owners, Emanuele Bianchi and Giovanni Bertoli, who wanted a transport system that was safer, kinder, more convenient and more flexible than a metal or plastic crate. So, “thinking outside the box”, and taking advice from pet psychologists, they soon realised that it would need to be made of fabric – waterproof, softer and warmer than steel or plastic. The fabric would need to be thick enough to be supportive, and immensely strong. It would stand upright with an integral sprung steel frame, and fold neatly away when not in use. It would have to provide sufficient UV protection – it’s almost always sunny in Italy! – as well as masses of ventilation. It would at the same time need to be cosy and comfortable as well as being spacious and airy. There’d be strong ground or car boot fixings, and also a system for fixing it to the back seats of cars.

It is was going to be a good seller, owners would need to appreciate the extra functionality and flexibility of the new product, and dogs would need to be seen to be comfortable about using it. So it would also have to be light to carry, leave boot space left free for other items, be completely free of rattling noises, carry no risk of damage to the car, and trap all dog hair and mud within it - to be shaken out later.

“It” became Dog Bag.

Folded Dog Bags need a stuff sack to prevent them from springing open, so why not make this into a useful accessory? The stuff sack soon became a rucksack, complete with a range of useful sized pockets for accessories. Owners use the main rucksack for carrying the dog’s food and feeding and water bowls when away from home.

There’s a range of accessories which provide additional protection from cold, wind, sun and rain - and internal accessories for extra comfort. These include a collection of practical, comfortable and hardwearing beds that can either be used on their own or placed in a Dog Bag of appropriate size. Familiarity reduces stress.

Dog Bags are expected to last for years, so there is no compromise on quality. The ‘High Density Fabric’ is an incredibly hard wearing and fully waterproof 1800 Denier ballistic nylon. All seams are taped and double sewn, and beefy YKK zips are used throughout. Nothing but the best.

If anyone can think of ways to improve the Dog Bag, we want to hear from you!

So, what do the users think?

A dog’s perspective:

  • I don’t get left behind nowadays; my place comes with me and they don’t have to find me somewhere to sleep.
  • If they’re getting a bit boring I can go back to my Dog Bag for some P and Q.
  • Until Dog Bag arrived I had to sleep in the car in a cold and rusting cage. (It wasn’t my fault I once chewed Aunt Molly’s chair leg during the night.)
  • Excellent visibility – I can see out whether I’m lying down or standing up.
  • I curl up against one corner of my Dog Bag when travelling and I feel safe and secure.
  • Dog Bag is nice and airy – it lets the fresh air and nice smells in and my nasty smells out!
  • When I’m zipped into my Dog Bag in the boot of the car I can’t go running off any more when they open the tailgate – BORING!
  • They let me back in the car now even when I’m wet and muddy; “walkies” nowadays are much more interesting, although they still complain if I roll in dead rabbit.
  • Sometimes my Dog Bag and I come and join them in the garden, and I can shelter from the sun.
  • “Cool in summer, warm in winter.”
  • Compared to metal cages and plastic boxes, Dog Bag is just “Cool!”
  • Sometimes she picks up a friend and the other dogs travel with me, 3 in a bag! When we travel in the friend’s saloon car my Dog Bag goes on the rear seat.

An owners’ perspective:

  • He’s so much calmer about travelling nowadays – he knows it’s his bed. We just put his normal blanket in the bottom of it and in he jumps. He doesn’t rampage around the back of the car any more.
  • It’s so light and easy to use – we use it every time we go out, and don’t leave him at home half as much as we used to.
  • We use the rucksack for carrying his bowl, food, toys and lead.
  • It keeps the car clean, dry, and almost completely free of dog hairs.
  • The car doesn’t have that wet dog smell like it used to.
  • The cage we had was so large, heavy and awkward. And it rattled, and it scratched the leather on the back of the rear seat. And anyway it’s too big to fit our new car, so we were looking for a new solution.
  • Now we can fit the dog and our luggage or shopping into the boot.
  • It’s brilliant when we’re staying with friends, or even just visiting them. Sometimes we peg the Dog Bag onto the lawn, other times we have tied it onto suitable objects and he’s slept in the kitchen overnight. We were never happy with leaving him in the car, and if the car needed to be parked on the street, we just couldn’t go away at all.
  • It wasn’t immediately clear to us how we folded it, but the pictures in the brochure made it clear, and the video clip on the web site makes it look very easy. We soon got the hang of it.
  • Sometimes I even take him to the office; last summer we took him to the beach.
