Thule CS-10 snow chains (pair) no. CS-10 060

£106.95
RRP: £143.00
Code: TUCS-10-060

These 10mm snow chains include Thule's unique "quick removal system" - removing chains is as easy as fitting them but can take longer, and can be quite a dirty process.

Important safety information: The purchase and use of snow chains is a technical business, and a complex one to manage in the online environment. These chains will fit around the tyres you have chosen but it's possible that they are not suitable for use with the combination of your particular make and model of car, and your tyre size.

If you have only chosen your tyre size to reach this page, without reference to your type of car, please use the "Select make, Select model, Select tyre" menu on the Home page to try and find your car and tyre size:

  • If you find your car and tyre size, and only a small number of chains are listed, maybe only one option, these are your only safe options.
  • If you don't find your car and tyre size, please check your vehicle handbook to see what it says about the use of snow chains. If it says, for example, "The use of snow chains is not permitted" or "No snow chains with a link size wider than 10mm may be used", this is important information!

Fitting notes:

These chains are quick and easy to fit. Have a look at the video. Points to note:

  • When you have pushed the chain around behind the wheel you hold both ends and lift both ends upwards. You want the hoop of chain to rise up under the car axle so that you can clip the two ends together near the top of the wheel. All modern snow chains are fitted in this way.
  • The automatic chain tensioning system is a strong bungy device which pulls one-way bead grippers through an easy load steel ratchet. It's a simple and very clever system, allowing for fine adjustment, with no danger of slippage. Chain tensioning is necessary because the chains will generally "shake down" on the wheels once you move off, involving some self centering and movement of the chain on the face of the tyres. Without an automatic system you need to get out of the vehicle after a short distance and take up any new slack yourself.
  • Practise fitting your chains a few times before you have to do it for real!
  • You need both hands to fit snowchains, so if it is dark a head torch makes all the difference - see below.

Removal notes:

This is where the CS-10s really score. Rather than having to park the vehicle so that the inner ring joint is uppermost (the outer chain ring coupling shows you where this is), then loosen the outer chain, then put both forearms over the wheel, grasp the steel cable inner ring and push it together to uncouple the two ends - which is usually a dirty process unless you are driving on clean snow - you just put the toggle on the CS-10 quick release and give it a firm tug. As if by magic, the chain falls off the wheel.

Additional notes:

  • All Thule chains are made from case-hardened manganese nickel (MnNi) alloy steel to provide an optimum combination of strength and hardness.
  • The "asymmetric diamond pattern" prevents chain from getting stuck in any central groove which your tyres might have.
  • The CS-10s have cross grip "ice breaker" links which should provide better side-to-side stability / traction as well as generally crunching more firmly into hard compacted snow.
  • Chains will wear out if driven on tarmac or concrete. Thule's CS-10 chains can be reversed and fitted 'inside out' on the tyre so that both sides get equal wear, helping them to last longer.
  • Each CS-10 chain link is 10mm high, D-shaped to make it bite well into snow and ice.
  • Plastic alloy rim protectors are supplied for optional use - they'll help to prevent the steel chains from vibrating against any softer aluminium alloys and scratching them. You'll see that the whole design of the chain mesh is quite low profile, so that on normal tyres the outer chain ring is unlikely to be near the alloys in any event.
  • CS-10 chains are supplied in a strong plastic case, together with a pair of plastic gloves, a kneeling mat, and a couple of emergency spare links (pliers are required).
  • All Thule snow chains meet the requirements of Austria's Ö-Norm 5117 and Germany's TÜV.

We're also showing you a range of other winter motoring products which we're selling here at market leading prices, including a snow and ice windscreen protector, a telescopic snow shovel, and a snow brush - all of these items are almost essential kit for winter weather, especially we suggest the snow brush. Delivery FAQs

When will my order arrive?
There are no deliveries on Saturdays, Sundays or Bank Holidays, except for postable items where Royal Mail has a Saturday delivery. Express Delivery orders placed on a Friday (before 1pm) should be delivered on the Monday or Tuesday, Express Delivery orders placed on a Saturday or Sunday should be delivered on the Tuesday or Wednesday. The arrangements for Very Heavy Items are different and are shown above.

What about Next Working Day delivery?
We have offered a reliable Next Working Day service for well over 20 years but, due to the pressure on the couriers caused by the coronavirus crisis and the huge increase in online shopping, we can no longer be confident about the delivery date, which is why we now call the service ‘Express delivery’. Most Express delivery orders will arrive on the next or second working day, but some will arrive on the second or third working day, or be split between these days. So-called “split deliveries” happen when the couriers do not have enough trailer space for everything that should be moved around the UK, so they will load what they can and leave the rest for the next trailer.

Is my delivery day guaranteed?
No retailer or courier company can ever "guarantee" a Next Working Day delivery. As well as split deliveries, all courier companies occasionally have the same transport problems as can happen to everyone else, including snow blocked roads, closed roads, traffic jams, mechanical breakdown, an inability to find the delivery address, or to gain access to it if, for example, it's in a block of flats. We work with some of the best couriers in the business, and overall they provide an outstanding service.

Do I need to be at home?
We are very flexible with our deliveries and will aim to deliver to an address which suits you – this does not need to be your home address. Goods can usually be left without signature - we prefer this with roof boxes. There's a "Special Delivery Instructions" box in the checkout area where we'll ask you to choose a typical instruction and then amend it to suit your particular requirements.

There are two parts to our snow chains offer this year:

(1) Clearance prices on many top branded snow chains, including RUD and Thule - an amazing opportunity for those who are quick off the mark! Thule (who are the biggest brand in the car racks market) have sold their snow chains division; the same chains are now being sold under the König brand. Thule branded chains have the same specifications as the König branded versions - all that has changed is the name on the chain and the name on the box.

(2)   Multibuy discounts - significant discounts if you buy two pairs of snow chains at the same time, or one pair of chains and one pair of AutoSock: If you do either of these things, we will discount the snow chains as follows:

  • König, Polaire and Spikes-Spider snow chains - at least 10% off!
  • INNO, Maggi, RUD and Thule snow chains - at least 20% off! Up to 30% off where we have large overstocks.

As usual, you change the quantities in the Shopping Basket.

Many customers will, for example, use snow chains on their driving wheels for Alpine use, and use AutoSock on the non-driving wheels, especially if these are the steering wheels. Also note that AutoSock work very well in very wet snow, even on slush, where snowchains are often not suitable because they can't get any grip in the snow. So having both AutoSock and snowchains makes sense from at least two different perspectives.
