Why it's important to select the correct vehicle and tyre size
Vehicle
There are a surprising number of vehicles that cannot use traditional snowchains, the types that put chain on the inside of the wheel as well as on the tread. This is usually because there is not enough space between the wheels and the shock absorbers; this can be a problem for ordinary SUVs and 4x4s as well as for high performance cars.
You will find this important information in your car handbook - please check this before using your snowchains! Our database is intended to do the basic work for you but, with so many new vehicles and tyre sizes, it should only ever be treated as a guide.
Tyre size
Please also check your tyre size - if you buy incorrectly-sized chains they will be either too tight or too loose.
Ladder track chains
The good news is that car handbooks usually only refer to "traditional snowchains". Ladder track chains such as the Polaire GRIP and Spikes-Spider range only put chain over the tyre tread, so are not subject to these restrictions. They are also ideal for use on rear wheel drives where there is minimal space between the top of the wheel and the wheel arch.
It's really important to select the correct vehicle, paying attention to the year of the manufacture

We think that BUZZ RACK’s E-Scorpion deserves to be a top choice for anyone who wants to carry 2 bikes, especially larger, heavy bikes or electric bikes. It's a hugely versatile rack that can take a big range of different types of bikes. Whatever bike you have now (or in the future) the E-Scorpion should be able to accommodate it. Bike carriers that are strong enough for electric bikes tend to be pretty beefy themselves, so handling these heavier bike carriers can be awkward. The Scorpion is a solid carrier at 18.1kg, but because it folds up it's relatively very easy to move about and to fit, without straining your back. It's even got an integrated transport wheel so you won't have to do much lifting of the rack. Just wheel it to the tow ball in the folded position – there’s a handle above the tow ball clamp, so it’s an easy vertical lift. Place it over the tow ball – you'll be standing above the tow ball, not some distance behind it. You'll also find that the E-Scorpion stays level and does not crash to the ground when you let go of it. Tighten, lock, unfold – all parts click into place, including the number plate holder. It’s particularly easy to tilt, with the tilt control just above the number plate. The lights are 5 function – they include a reversing light and a fog light if you have a 13 pin socket - and are UK legal, i.e. the fog light is on the right hand side / off side. Other features and specifications: - The patented conical fitting fits to all tow balls.
- The Buzz E-Scorpion is particularly well balanced - you can let go once you've placed it on the tow ball, which makes fitting the rack much easier.
- You mount it to the tow ball from folded, this gives you loads of space to fit it to the car (no bashing shins or straining your back).
- It's easy to fit to the tow ball. Fitting is a matter of spinning a hand-turning wheel, a really quick, easy and ergonomically satisfactory thing to do. Turn the key in the tightening wheel and the carrier is then locked to the tow ball. Additional tensioning is sometimes required (using the integrated handle), depending on the tow ball, to make sure the carrier is firm.
- It sits high on the tow ball, well clear of speed bumps and other hazards such as steep ferry ramps.
- The wheel holders will accommodate larger wheelbases; up to 129.5cm.
- Ratchet straps allow a quick and secure attachment of the wheels, long straps can accommodate tyres up to 4” wide.
- Lockable frame arms hold your bikes securely and can be attached to any part of the frame, or the seat post.
- Locks to the tow ball.
- The upright can be raised so it's suitable for bikes with very large frames.
- It tilts to allow access to the boot, even with the bikes fitted. It is genuinely easy to tilt and well balanced during the tilting phase.
- Dimensions: 134 x 72cm deep (measured from the centre of the tow ball to the outside edge of the number plate holder).
- Weight: 18.1kg.
- It folds so you can easily store it in your boot when required, making finding a parking space before your ride much easier. It's even small enough to fit it in the back of most cars if your boot is full.
- A built-in transport wheel makes it as easy as possible to get the rack to and from your car. You won't even need to lift the rack until you put it on the tow bar. Because it folds it's much easier to maneuver.
- Comes with a 5 function 13 pin lighting system, with UK compliant fog lights, i.e. the fog light is on the right hand side / offside. An adapter is included if you have a 7 pin socket.
- All parts are replaceable if e.g. someone forgets that a tow bar carrier is fitted and reverses into a wall - which happens!
- A loading ramp is available separately (coming soon)
- The build quality - tube bending, welding, rust proofing, painting, component quality, is exemplary. All tools you might need are provided.
- We also think it looks great!

Delivery FAQs
When will my order arrive?
There are no deliveries on Saturdays, Sundays or Bank Holidays, except for postable items where Royal Mail has a Saturday delivery. Express Delivery orders placed on a Friday (before 1pm) should be delivered on the Monday or Tuesday, Express Delivery orders placed on a Saturday or Sunday should be delivered on the Tuesday or Wednesday. The arrangements for Very Heavy Items are different and are shown above.
What about Next Working Day delivery?
We have offered a reliable Next Working Day service for well over 20 years but, due to the pressure on the couriers caused by the coronavirus crisis and the huge increase in online shopping, we can no longer be confident about the delivery date, which is why we now call the service ‘Express delivery’. Most Express delivery orders will arrive on the next or second working day, but some will arrive on the second or third working day, or be split between these days. So-called “split deliveries” happen when the couriers do not have enough trailer space for everything that should be moved around the UK, so they will load what they can and leave the rest for the next trailer.
Is my delivery day guaranteed?
No retailer or courier company can ever "guarantee" a Next Working Day delivery. As well as split deliveries, all courier companies occasionally have the same transport problems as can happen to everyone else, including snow blocked roads, closed roads, traffic jams, mechanical breakdown, an inability to find the delivery address, or to gain access to it if, for example, it's in a block of flats. We work with some of the best couriers in the business, and overall they provide an outstanding service.
Do I need to be at home?
We are very flexible with our deliveries and will aim to deliver to an address which suits you – this does not need to be your home address. Goods can usually be left without signature - we prefer this with roof boxes. There's a "Special Delivery Instructions" box in the checkout area where we'll ask you to choose a typical instruction and then amend it to suit your particular requirements.
