Self tensioning

Self-tensioning chains will have some sort of spring or elastic device to tighten themselves. We avoid the types that have an internal spring coiled wire - these can jam if water runs into them and refreezes. RUD and Thule chains use a bungy device, Maggi use 'elastomer balls' which are fitted under pressure, then apply the tension by trying to reduce in size. Note that Ladder track chains do not need retensioning.

These issues are not particular to the brands we supply; they are true of all snow chain brands.
