This page is designed for customers who want detailed information to help them decide which cross bars to use. It includes an order section for almost all the possible components, except for very long steel bars. Both Thule and Atera roof rail clamps fit into slots in the bottom of the bars. The length of this slot determines the maximum and minimum width that these roof bars can span - it's the same whether they are steel bars or aluminium aerobars. You'll need to measure between the inside faces of your longitudinal roof rails to work out which of these roof bars will be suitable. These are the maximum and minimum distances, e.g. if your roof rails are 900mm apart then the following bars will fit - Thule 120cm; Atera 110cm, Atera 122cm:
Note that the Atera bars are 2cm longer than the Thule ones, and have a longer slot in the base of the bar, so they slide slightly closer together, i.e.
If choosing longer steel bars it is essential to check that the overall width of the load will not be wider than the vehicle, excluding the wing mirrors. It is sensible if the bars do not protrude more than 50% of the distance between the roof rails and the widest point of the vehicle (excluding the wing mirrors). A further tip when positioning your accessories: If you are using steel bars, and e.g. bike carrier or roof box fittings clash with the clamps, consider mounting the bars off-centre, i.e. having more bar sticking out one side than the other. If you do decide to order below, only click on "Buy Checked Items" when you are sure you have chosen only what you want! If buying a Thule system, you need to order clamps (757) and a set of bars. |
