This is a modular system, which means that you may be able to use some of these components on a different vehicle or (for example) change these aluminium black Evo WingBars for a set of SlideBars. The Foot Pack contains four feet which attach to fixing points on the car roof via a vehicle-specific Adapter Kit. Foot Pack: The Thule Evo 7107 Foot Pack may only be used on vehicles with fixing points on the car roof. This Foot Pack has a maximum load limit of 100kg, so this is the load limit for the whole system. Many vehicles have a lower roof-loading limit than this, so it is always important to check your vehicle handbook and the fitting instructions for the adapter kit, and also to think about the weight of the roof bars - approximately 9kg for this whole 3 bar system - the weight of what you fix to them (e.g. bike carriers or a roof box) and the weight of what you are carrying. Evo WingBars: These are 80mm wide by 32mm high, including the rubber strip which fits into the T-track channel that runs along the top of each bar. There are three good reasons for choosing Evo WingBars:
Adapter Kit: The Adapter Kit contains the essential components required to fix the roof bars to the vehicle. It may well be specific to this vehicle; you can see how it fits by looking at the Fitting instructions tab. Note that the picture just shows a typical fixpoint Adapter Kit, to give you an idea of what to expect. Locks: One Key System locks are included. We have a free lock matching scheme for all your Thule gear which, as a customer, you may continue to use any time you want. This means that you can use the same key for most of your Thule products. In practice, only having one key for all roof mounted bike carriers is the most useful part of a 'one key system', a system which is offered by all the major brands we sell. Thule 753 system option: The Thule Evo roof bar system is replacing the Thule Rapid System after many years. If you already have a Thule 753 Rapid System foot pack, it will be much cheaper for you just to buy a new Rapid System adapter kit, if available. If we still have stock of the Rapid System adapter kit, it will be shown below in the 'Specialist options' list. The Rapid System usually uses a shorter roof bar than the Evo system; if so, the black WingBars needed for use with the 753 foot pack will also be shown in the Specialist options list. If not shown, you need the black WingBars shown in the 'Core components' list. The Thule plastic-headed premium keys we sell are genuine Thule spare parts, compatible with Thule roof bars, roof boxes, bike racks, and all other accessories which are part of Thule’s One Key System. These keys have an ergonomically-shaped plastic head, larger than a flat steel key and easier to grip and turn, especially in wet conditions, or when wearing gloves. Keys are numbered from 1 to 250. We refer to all these keys as premium keys, as opposed to steel keys, to keep things simple. The keys numbered from N001 to N200 inclusive are sometimes referred to as Comfort keys, and the keys from N201 to N250 are sometimes called Premium keys. The shape of the plastic handle is different for each range - as shown in the images. Select your Thule key number from the dropdown. What to do if you have lost your Thule keys If you have lost your keys – which every year happens to huge numbers of our customers! – then your options are either Easy or Difficult. Easy: If the lock number of your Thule product is stamped on the face of the barrel, order the keys. Easy: If the lock number is NOT stamped on the face of the barrel, and all relevant Thule products are unlocked, you need to order a Master Key, used for removing unlocked lock barrels. At the same time you should also order however many replacement lock barrels you need, and at least two replacement keys. Difficult: If the lock number is NOT stamped on the face of the barrel, and any of your relevant Thule products are LOCKED, you have a significant problem. There are 50 key options. You can buy 50 different keys from us, numbers 201 to 250 inclusive, or you can visit your nearest Thule reseller who, so we are informed, keeps a full set of keys. See here [link to be added soon] for a list of Thule resellers who might be able to help, organised by postcode, phone numbers included. If you buy 50 keys from us then you will want to return 49 of them and buy at least one spare key. No problem, we will refund these at the price you paid for them, less a charge of £25 as a contribution to the labour costs of entering 49 returned keys into our accounting system and putting 49 keys back into their individual storage boxes. The cost and risks of returning the keys to us are yours – we recommend that you use a signed-for delivery service. Note that we have a database where our customers can record their key numbers and look them up later; see roofbox.co.uk/keysafe. Here are some other ideas for keeping control of keys and a record of key numbers:
The latest generation of Thule products does not have the lock number recorded anywhere on the lock barrels; somebody evidently decided that this is a good idea! All the Thule lock barrels we sell are genuine Thule components, compatible with Thule roof bars, roof boxes, bike racks, and all other accessories which are part of Thule’s One Key System. Manufactured to Thule’s exacting standards, they provide long-lasting reliability and peace of mind. If you have the latest Thule lock barrels, with no number shown anywhere on the barrel, you will find the relevant lock number on the key. The Thule standard steel keys we sell are genuine Thule spare parts, compatible with Thule roof bars, roof boxes, bike racks, and all other accessories which are part of Thule’s One Key System. Keys are numbered from 1 to 250. Numbers 1 to 200 have a round-shaped head, and numbers 201 to 250 have a square-shaped head – as seen in the images. Select your Thule key number from the dropdown. The aim of this note is to persuade you that kayaks should always be tied to the carrying vehicle at both bow and stern.
Untied kayaks have, in our experience, the greatest potential for a roof bar or kayak carrier failure. The massive forces that untied kayaks can generate have even been known to snap roof bar fixing bolts with the result that a complete assembly of roof bars and kayaks has ended up on the road. We know that this has happened with almost every brand of roof bar, and regardless of whether the kayaks are on a special carrier or just strapped to the bars. You need to fix bow and stern lines, probably using the front and rear screw-in towing eyes to get strong and accessible fixing points on the vehicle. Kayak shops should be able to provide suitable 'paracord' for this purpose. Alternatively, we have sets of straps available that are perfect for the job and are really easy to use. Yakima make some excellent Bow/Stern tie down straps and Thule makes the QuickDraw 838 which we have listed together with every kayak carrier we sell. Please note that kayaks should be strapped to the roof bars, or to kayak carriers, using straps that are suitable for the purpose, e.g. 25mm polypropylene straps with strong buckles. Bungee cords must never be used. Please also note that all roof bar instructions point out the dangers of carrying unsecured long items, as of course do all kayak carrier instructions. If you tie down your kayaks properly you almost certainly won't experience a product failure. If you don't you may or may not get away with it. If there is a disaster and the kayaks end up on the road, separated from the vehicle, then you were not using tie downs and you have subjected the roof bars to forces for which they were not designed. The costs of sorting this out are yours, not ours, and you may also have difficulties with your insurers. We're sorry to be so firm about this, but "things coming off the tops of cars" is the stuff of nightmares, and we want to do all we can to prevent accidents of this sort from happening. |
