Rhino ImpactStep with Connect+ sensors, no. IMC10

£938.00
RRP:
Code: RPA/IMC10

Rhino’s ImpactStep is a bump-absorbing rear step.

It’s a smart looking, really well-engineered piece of kit.

It deserves serious consideration as an alternative to a rear step, especially if your vehicle is going to be loaded / unloaded with fork lift trucks.

What does an ImpactStep do?

Rhino’s ImpactStep is a bump-absorbing rear step.

It therefore has to be a very sensible addition to any van that’s going to be carrying pallets, especially if you are also thinking about fitting a rear step.

Rear steps make it much easier and safer to step into and out of the loading area, and also prevent the rear bumper being marked and dented.

The ImpactStep does what its name suggests – it’s a full width rear step which absorbs significant thumps, even if these happen on the outside edges of the ImpactStep. Vans are most likely to be bumped by fork lifts, but damage might also be caused by other vehicles, or by turning or parking errors.

The ImpactStep was independently tested for Rhino, using a fully laden Sprinter van travelling at 3mph. This was the equivalent of 6 tonnes of bumping force.

The reality is that most rear steps are hit by forklifts from time to time, damaging the plastic treads or denting all steel ‘safety bar' style steps. The shock from a heavy collision can also damage the vehicle chassis.

If you don’t fit any type of rear step then of course the damage caused by a rear collision is likely to be much greater, potentially including lights and body panels. Rear steps make sense!

Features of the ImpactStep

The ImpactStep includes two shock absorbers; each works independently, and can be compressed up to 60mm. The whole shape of the ImpactStep – it’s slightly curved - is not only designed to look stylish; the shape helps to equalize the forces applied to each mounting.

The step part of it is a standard-width rear step, with an anti-slip tread surface. The updated ImpactStep has a bright yellow step, to increase safety when stepping out of the van onto the step, and to make the existence of a step more obvious to fork lift drivers.

Note that the early versions of the ImpactStep came with ‘puddle light’ down-lighters built into the step; these lights are no longer included.

Fitting an ImpactStep is an easy enough DIY job; the instructions are very good, and all necessary fixings are supplied.

Recommendation

Highly recommended; we think the extra cost, compared to a standard SafeStep rear step, is well worth it.

Please note that the version shown on this page includes Connect+ sensors, allowing you to move existing reversing sensors into the ImpactStep via Connect+ (plug and play)
