Thule designed the WanderWay bike carrier specifically for the VW T6 tailgate. It's an excellent carrier - simple to fit, easy to load, and is suitable for all bikes, including eBikes, heavier bikes generally, and large MTBs (with a wheelbase up to 127cm). It's equally suitable for smaller kids' bikes.
Important note: it's not possible to fit this rack to a T6 with a spoiler or other modifications to the tailgate.

The Thule WanderWay is supplied as a 2 bike carrier and can take individual bikes up to 30kg each; the important matter is that the overall load must not exceed 60kg, even if you are also using the optional 3rd bike adapter and 4th bike adapter. It also has a wider than normal spacing between the bike wheel trays (31cm if you are only carrying two bikes) so it's great if you have heavier bikes with chunkier frames, for example heavy electric bikes or larger mountain bikes (up to a 127cm wheelbase). It comes with long wheel straps with pump buckles to make it easy to secure your wheels. eBikes: The WanderWay can take a maximum bike weight of 30kg on each bike wheel tray and, with 31cm of space between the bike wheel trays, it's ideal for a couple of standard eBikes (as long as you can lift them up onto the rack!) In practice, if you are carrying two eBikes there is unlikely to be sufficient weight allowance remaining to carry a 3rd bike. But if for example two of your three eBikes are 15kg each then carrying three will be no problem. The bike frame holders are lockable and, because they are easy to remove from the bike carrier when they're unlocked, the outer frame holders can usually be moved to a position where they can grab their bike frames without danger of rubbing against the inner bikes. Their lockable AcuTight knobs will “click” when optimal torque is reached, giving you confidence that your bike is held tightly enough. As you would expect, the WanderWay sits above the rear lights and number plate, keeping both visible. The platform folds up when it's not in use and it's possible to open the tailgate with the WanderWay fitted - you'll need to remove the bikes first. Other features / points to note:
The Thule plastic-headed premium keys we sell are genuine Thule spare parts, compatible with Thule roof bars, roof boxes, bike racks, and all other accessories which are part of Thule’s One Key System. These keys have an ergonomically-shaped plastic head, larger than a flat steel key and easier to grip and turn, especially in wet conditions, or when wearing gloves. Keys are numbered from 1 to 250. We refer to all these keys as premium keys, as opposed to steel keys, to keep things simple. The keys numbered from N001 to N200 inclusive are sometimes referred to as Comfort keys, and the keys from N201 to N250 are sometimes called Premium keys. What to do if you have lost your Thule keys If you have lost your keys – which every year happens to huge numbers of our customers! – then your options are either Easy or Difficult. Easy: If the lock number of your Thule product is stamped on the face of the barrel, order the keys. Easy: If the lock number is NOT stamped on the face of the barrel, and all relevant Thule products are unlocked, you need to order a Master Key, used for removing unlocked lock barrels. At the same time you should also order however many replacement lock barrels you need, and at least two replacement keys. Difficult: If the lock number is NOT stamped on the face of the barrel, and any of your relevant Thule products are LOCKED, you have a significant problem. There are 50 key options. You can buy 50 different keys from us, numbers 201 to 250 inclusive, or you can visit your nearest Thule reseller who, so we are informed, keeps a full set of keys. If you buy 50 keys from us then you will want to return 49 of them and buy at least one spare key. No problem, we will refund these at the price you paid for them, less a charge of £25 as a contribution to the labour costs of entering 49 returned keys into our accounting system and putting 49 keys back into their individual storage boxes. The cost and risks of returning the keys to us are yours – we recommend that you use a signed-for delivery service.
