Why it's important to select the correct vehicle and tyre size
Vehicle
There are a surprising number of vehicles that cannot use traditional snowchains, the types that put chain on the inside of the wheel as well as on the tread. This is usually because there is not enough space between the wheels and the shock absorbers; this can be a problem for ordinary SUVs and 4x4s as well as for high performance cars.
You will find this important information in your car handbook - please check this before using your snowchains! Our database is intended to do the basic work for you but, with so many new vehicles and tyre sizes, it should only ever be treated as a guide.
Tyre size
Please also check your tyre size - if you buy incorrectly-sized chains they will be either too tight or too loose.
Ladder track chains
The good news is that car handbooks usually only refer to "traditional snowchains". Ladder track chains such as the Polaire GRIP and Spikes-Spider range only put chain over the tyre tread, so are not subject to these restrictions. They are also ideal for use on rear wheel drives where there is minimal space between the top of the wheel and the wheel arch.
It's really important to select the correct vehicle, paying attention to the year of the manufacture

There has long been a market for carrying luggage boxes behind vehicles rather than on the roof, mainly for ease of access. Most of these rear boxes are quite basic, and are usually fixed to separate platforms or onto tow bar mounted bike carriers.
Only one brand that we know of has really given this sector the attention it deserves, TowBox, a brand created and developed over more than 15 years by Spain’s premier designer and manufacturer of towbar systems, Enganches Aragón.
They have created a range of rear boxes that are strong, secure, and water-resistant to IP44. TowBox V1 can not only be tilted, via a control handle on the outer edge of the box, but it slides away from the rear of the vehicle before tilting, to allow easy access to the boot space - this is a really useful feature (unfortunately it won't tilt far enough to allow vertical tailgates or barn-doors to open). To keep the centre of gravity as close to the vehicle as possible, and to allow for maximum loading, the TowBox V1 slides over the tow ball coupling system before driving, another very neat solution.
TowBox V1 also has a 2nd mounting position, which gives a bigger gap between the box and the back of the vehicle. This feature allows the TowBox V3 to be used on vehicles with a spare wheel (the maximum load is reduced to between 30 - 40kg if you have to slide it out to accommodate the spare wheel).
TowBox V1 includes built-in five-function 13 pin lights (a 7 pin adapter is also included).
Rear-mounted boxes produce less drag than roof-mounted boxes, and are generally a better solution for electric vehicles. There’s no doubt that, all other things being equal (vehicle load weight, driving style and speed, and wind speed) a 390 litre roof box will use more of the vehicle's energy than a 390 litre box mounted behind the vehicle, although on the downside a rear mounted box will of course impose many more limitations on shape and size than a roof box, or an open roof rack. Additional drag is of particular importance for electric cars because the extra energy used will reduce the range available before recharging is necessary – fossil-fuelled vehicles usually have a longer range, can refuel much more quickly, and can carry their own extra fuel if necessary.

Delivery FAQs
When will my order arrive?
There are no deliveries on Saturdays, Sundays or Bank Holidays, except for postable items where Royal Mail has a Saturday delivery. Express Delivery orders placed on a Friday (before 1pm) should be delivered on the Monday or Tuesday, Express Delivery orders placed on a Saturday or Sunday should be delivered on the Tuesday or Wednesday. The arrangements for Very Heavy Items are different and are shown above.
What about Next Working Day delivery?
Most Express delivery orders will arrive on the next working day, if the order is placed before the cut-off time (see above). Some will arrive on the second working day if there has been a "split-delivery". So-called “split deliveries” happen when the couriers do not have enough trailer space for everything that should be moved around the UK, so they will load what they can and leave the rest for the next trailer.
Is my delivery day guaranteed?
No retailer or courier company can ever "guarantee" a Next Working Day delivery. As well as split deliveries, all courier companies occasionally have the same transport problems as can happen to everyone else, including snow blocked roads, closed roads, traffic jams, mechanical breakdown, an inability to find the delivery address, or to gain access to it if, for example, it's in a block of flats. We work with some of the best couriers in the business, and overall they provide an outstanding service.
Do I need to be at home?
We are very flexible with our deliveries and will aim to deliver to an address which suits you – this does not need to be your home address. Goods can usually be left without signature - we prefer this with roof boxes. There's a "Special Delivery Instructions" box in the checkout area where we'll ask you to choose a typical instruction and then amend it to suit your particular requirements.
