Why it's important to select the correct vehicle and tyre size
Vehicle
There are a surprising number of vehicles that cannot use traditional snowchains, the types that put chain on the inside of the wheel as well as on the tread. This is usually because there is not enough space between the wheels and the shock absorbers; this can be a problem for ordinary SUVs and 4x4s as well as for high performance cars.
You will find this important information in your car handbook - please check this before using your snowchains! Our database is intended to do the basic work for you but, with so many new vehicles and tyre sizes, it should only ever be treated as a guide.
Tyre size
Please also check your tyre size - if you buy incorrectly-sized chains they will be either too tight or too loose.
Ladder track chains
The good news is that car handbooks usually only refer to "traditional snowchains". Ladder track chains such as the Polaire GRIP and Spikes-Spider range only put chain over the tyre tread, so are not subject to these restrictions. They are also ideal for use on rear wheel drives where there is minimal space between the top of the wheel and the wheel arch.
It's really important to select the correct vehicle, paying attention to the year of the manufacture

The GateKeeper provides a convenient way of carrying up to five bikes, spaced 25cm apart. over the back door of a pickup. It secures over the back door using three sturdy nylon straps. The HindSight™ tuck-away cover provides access to your door handle and provides a view for the reversing camera on most vehicles. This flap is 44 - 35cm wide and 28cm deep, larger than covers most other tailgate pads. It works for most reversing cameras but do check these measurement to be sure your reversing camera is not obscured. The original GateKeeper was really popular but Yakima have improved this version to cater for larger bike frames and heavier bikes, allowing you to use it with e-bikes (as well as normal bikes). The downtubes sit in padded cradles and are secured using strong G-hook buckles with long, padded straps that even work with chunky e-bike frames. The metal G-hook buckles allow you to fit the strap really securely, and they won't become loose over time. This version also includes a metal loop that you can use with a cable lock (cable locks available separately).
Key features include: - Rugged nylon outer material resists abrasion and weather damage
- Extra soft felt backing protects your truck's paint job
- Fits most pickups sold in the UK (with tailgates up to 155cm wide)
- Dimensions: L 134.6 cm x H 43.2 cm x D 12.7 cm
- Maximum load of 25 kg per bike
- Long bike holding straps (40 cm) with metal G-hook buckles accommodate even large down tubes (including e-bikes)
- The straps are fixed onto the GateKeeper - so can't get lost!
- An integrated lock loop allows you to attach a locking cable (cable locks available separately)
- The silver graphics are reflective, for better safety and visibility

Delivery FAQs
When will my order arrive?
There are no deliveries on Saturdays, Sundays or Bank Holidays, except for postable items where Royal Mail has a Saturday delivery. Express Delivery orders placed on a Friday (before 1pm) should be delivered on the Monday or Tuesday, Express Delivery orders placed on a Saturday or Sunday should be delivered on the Tuesday or Wednesday. The arrangements for Very Heavy Items are different and are shown above.
What about Next Working Day delivery?
Most Express delivery orders will arrive on the next working day, if the order is placed before the cut-off time (see above). Some will arrive on the second working day if there has been a "split-delivery". So-called “split deliveries” happen when the couriers do not have enough trailer space for everything that should be moved around the UK, so they will load what they can and leave the rest for the next trailer.
Is my delivery day guaranteed?
No retailer or courier company can ever "guarantee" a Next Working Day delivery. As well as split deliveries, all courier companies occasionally have the same transport problems as can happen to everyone else, including snow blocked roads, closed roads, traffic jams, mechanical breakdown, an inability to find the delivery address, or to gain access to it if, for example, it's in a block of flats. We work with some of the best couriers in the business, and overall they provide an outstanding service.
Do I need to be at home?
We are very flexible with our deliveries and will aim to deliver to an address which suits you – this does not need to be your home address. Goods can usually be left without signature - we prefer this with roof boxes. There's a "Special Delivery Instructions" box in the checkout area where we'll ask you to choose a typical instruction and then amend it to suit your particular requirements.

We take the following cards, and also PayPal. Please note that the entry on your card statement will be from "The Roof Box Company".
