CRUZ Airo Fuse black aluminium roof bars with fitting kit 6541

Code: CR_6541_AIROFSD98_98

CRUZ Airo Fuse are 'flush' aluminium T-track bars; it's only the bar length between the feet that can be used for load carrying, so be sure that they'll be long enough for what you want to carry.

They're designed to look good on the latest car styles, with low profile feet, and the adapter kits (which are also priced relatively very cheaply) include rubber gaiters to hide the fittings.

For even better value they are sold in single units because most cars now taper from front to back (they're wider at the front) and you may be able to reuse at least one bar when you change car.

We're really impressed with the new Airo Fuse roof bar system. It's good looking, smartly designed, well-engineered, strong (the load limit is 75kg, depending on the vehicle), easy to use, and very good value for money. The downside for many of our customers is that these bars may not be long enough to carry what you want. They'll probably be OK if you just want to carry a roof box, or up to 3 bike carriers, but they're likely to be too short for a box and a bike carrier, or for 4 bike carriers.

This is because they are flush bars, sometimes called closed end bars, or OEM-style bars; only the bar length between the feet can be used for load carrying. If you need longer bars, to carry more, then please have a look at the CRUZ OptiPLUS bars, also available with the Airo black aluminium profile.

The aluminium section in both these bars is 98cm long, but the useable length, between the feet, is much less. It will vary between 73.5cm and 78.5cm, depending on the width between the fixpoints or flush rails for specific vehicles. We will provide information about precise measurements for specific vehicles as and when we get information from our own tests and from our customers.

This is a modular system - it consists of (1) two bars, supplied as two single units because many cars are significantly wider at the front than the back, so the rear bar is usually shorter than the front bar; (2) a vehicle specific fitting kit to join the bars to the roof. The two bars, and the fitting kit, have been pre-ticked in the list below. (3) Locks are also available, also very good value; tick them if you want them.

CRUZ Airo Fuse use their aluminium 'Airo' profile. Aerofoil-shaped roof bars were developed by Whispbar (now called Yakima) and similarly shaped bars are now also used by CRUZ, Atera and Thule. As well as being massively quieter than rectangular steel bars, aerofoil bars generate less drag and therefore help to reduce fuel consumption.

Other features:

  • 80mm wide x 28mm deep
  • The T-track adapters used in the slots in the tops of the bars are the standard 20mm x 20mm ones - all the products we sell, that use T-track adapters, use this size
  • There are black rubber strips to push back into the T-track slots when there's nothing fitted to them
  • The aluminium parts have a hard wearing, black textured finish
  • CRUZ Airo Fuse have a lower profile than most bar systems, only 8.5cm high from their base to the top of the bar; the finished height will depend on the design of the adapter kit, but it's kept as low as is sensible. It's a design thing - the aim is for the bars to look well integrated with the car roof.
  • The adapter kits are the usual OptiPLUS FIX kits; they include smart rubber gaiters to cover the adapter kit, enhancing the smart, integrated look.
  • CRUZ adapter kits / fitting kits are very well priced.

CRUZ Airo Fuse roof bar systems are fully TÜV approved and have a 3 year guarantee.

Please note that CRUZ adapter kits will only work with CRUZ roof bars.

Please also note that any brand and model of roof box, bike carrier, water sports or ski carrier can be fitted to CRUZ bars, if it has suitable fittings; more information is provided on individual product pages.

Cruzber is Spain’s largest roof bar and roof rack manufacturer, founded in 1963. It sells most of its products under the CRUZ brand label, operating from over 125,000 square feet of modern premises and using state of the art manufacturing machinery. Cruzber is highly regarded in the European market in particular, for its quality and its innovation, and is now also gaining market share in e.g. Australasian markets. We have no doubt that CRUZ branded roof bars are the best made and overall best value in the mid-market.

The aim of this note is to persuade you that kayaks should always be tied to the carrying vehicle at both bow and stern.

Always tie down at both bow and stern

Untied kayaks have, in our experience, the greatest potential for a roof bar or kayak carrier failure. The massive forces that untied kayaks can generate have even been known to snap roof bar fixing bolts with the result that a complete assembly of roof bars and kayaks has ended up on the road. We know that this has happened with almost every brand of roof bar, and regardless of whether the kayaks are on a special carrier or just strapped to the bars.

You need to fix bow and stern lines, probably using the front and rear screw-in towing eyes to get strong and accessible fixing points on the vehicle. Kayak shops should be able to provide suitable 'paracord' for this purpose. Alternatively, we have sets of straps available that are perfect for the job and are really easy to use. Yakima make some excellent Bow/Stern tie down straps and Thule makes the QuickDraw 838 which we have listed together with every kayak carrier we sell.

Please note that kayaks should be strapped to the roof bars, or to kayak carriers, using straps that are suitable for the purpose, e.g. 25mm polypropylene straps with strong buckles. Bungee cords must never be used.

Please also note that all roof bar instructions point out the dangers of carrying unsecured long items, as of course do all kayak carrier instructions.

If you tie down your kayaks properly you almost certainly won't experience a product failure. If you don't you may or may not get away with it. If there is a disaster and the kayaks end up on the road, separated from the vehicle, then you were not using tie downs and you have subjected the roof bars to forces for which they were not designed. The costs of sorting this out are yours, not ours, and you may also have difficulties with your insurers.

We're sorry to be so firm about this, but "things coming off the tops of cars" is the stuff of nightmares, and we want to do all we can to prevent accidents of this sort from happening.

    Very Heavy Items

Very Heavy Items are delivered via the ArrowXL 2-person delivery service. All other products that are part of the same order will usually also be delivered by ArrowXL, at the same time as the Very Heavy Item.

Please note that deliveries from ArrowXL need to be signed for, e.g. by a neighbour if you are not at home, or you can have the goods delivered to a different address.

There is a £25 surcharge for Very Heavy Item deliveries to the Grampian area, Scottish Highlands, any GB delivery including a sea crossing, and Northern Ireland. There is a £50 surcharge for Very Heavy Item deliveries to the Isle of Man, the Channel Islands and the Republic of Ireland. Deliveries to all these places will take longer than normal, sometimes much longer - delivery timings are indicated in the Shopping Basket.

When will my order arrive?
There are no deliveries on Saturdays, Sundays or Bank Holidays, except for postable items where Royal Mail has a Saturday delivery. Express Delivery orders placed on a Friday (before 1pm) should be delivered on the Monday or Tuesday, Express Delivery orders placed on a Saturday or Sunday should be delivered on the Tuesday or Wednesday. The arrangements for Very Heavy Items are different and are shown above.

What about Next Working Day delivery?
We have offered a reliable Next Working Day service for well over 20 years but, due to the pressure on the couriers caused by the coronavirus crisis and the huge increase in online shopping, we can no longer be confident about the delivery date, which is why we now call the service ‘Express delivery’. Most Express delivery orders will arrive on the next or second working day, but some will arrive on the second or third working day, or be split between these days. So-called “split deliveries” happen when the couriers do not have enough trailer space for everything that should be moved around the UK, so they will load what they can and leave the rest for the next trailer.

Is my delivery day guaranteed?
No retailer or courier company can ever "guarantee" a Next Working Day delivery. As well as split deliveries, all courier companies occasionally have the same transport problems as can happen to everyone else, including snow blocked roads, closed roads, traffic jams, mechanical breakdown, an inability to find the delivery address, or to gain access to it if, for example, it's in a block of flats. We work with some of the best couriers in the business, and overall they provide an outstanding service.

Do I need to be at home?
We are very flexible with our deliveries and will aim to deliver to an address which suits you – this does not need to be your home address. Goods can usually be left without signature - we prefer this with roof boxes. There's a "Special Delivery Instructions" box in the checkout area where we'll ask you to choose a typical instruction and then amend it to suit your particular requirements.
