Why it's important to select the correct vehicle and tyre size
Vehicle
There are a surprising number of vehicles that cannot use traditional snowchains, the types that put chain on the inside of the wheel as well as on the tread. This is usually because there is not enough space between the wheels and the shock absorbers; this can be a problem for ordinary SUVs and 4x4s as well as for high performance cars.
You will find this important information in your car handbook - please check this before using your snowchains! Our database is intended to do the basic work for you but, with so many new vehicles and tyre sizes, it should only ever be treated as a guide.
Tyre size
Please also check your tyre size - if you buy incorrectly-sized chains they will be either too tight or too loose.
Ladder track chains
The good news is that car handbooks usually only refer to "traditional snowchains". Ladder track chains such as the Polaire GRIP and Spikes-Spider range only put chain over the tyre tread, so are not subject to these restrictions. They are also ideal for use on rear wheel drives where there is minimal space between the top of the wheel and the wheel arch.
How do I check my tyre size?
How do I check my tyre size?
You are looking for three numbers (occasionally just two numbers) shown on the edge of the tyre, e.g. 195 / 65 - R15
For info, what do these numbers mean?
195 is the tyre width in mm. 65 is the profile, the distance from the edge of the rim to the top of the tread (the tyre "wall") in mm, expressed as a percentage of the width, i.e. the tyre wall is 127mm high in this example (195 x 65). 15 is the "rim size" in inches (a complicated measurement).
Please confirm that your vehicle AND tyre size is shown correctly below

König Reflex Edge automatic snow chains (pair) no. 603
Our Price
£244.95
RRP: £330.00
Code: KGRE-603
Overview:
König's Reflex Edge automatic chains are based on a clever development of their award-winning Easy-fit technology, with a spring loaded system which tightens the chain behind the wheel at the same as tightening it in front of the wheel. Reflex Edge are especially suitable for rear wheel drive vehicles which have very little space in the wheel arches – you just push the rigid inner hoop of chain over the top of each wheel - and they provide particularly good protection against chain damage to alloy wheel rims.
Reflex Edge are also tangle-free, so they always come out of their carrying bag ready to fit. In summary, they’re a very significant innovation in snow chain technology.

Why buy Reflex Edge? You may well have a rear-wheel drive car that’s usually "useless in snow” and also has so little space between the top of the wheel and the wheel arch that there’s no space to get your hands and forearms in to fit traditional types of snowchain, or even to push an AutoSock over the top of the tyre.
Reflex Edge are of course also suitable for fitting to front wheels; they are a premium priced chain but still good value, bearing in mind the ease of fitting.
You also want a snowchain that’s very low profile and is designed to minimise the risk of damage to alloy wheel rims.
You will also definitely need a solution to keep your car moving in snowy weather, either here in the UK or perhaps on a ski-drive holiday to the Alps.
Who should use Reflex Edge? If you’re reading this page then it’s your good luck that there is a size for your car and tyre combination! Our database includes the latest vehicle applications, all checked out by König. You may find that your car handbook includes a "No fit for snowchains”, almost certainly referring to the traditional type of snow chain; these Reflex Edge will be fine if fitted correctly - the hoops and chain are only 7mm thick.
Fitting:
The Reflex Edge consists of a rigid outer hoop for the front of the wheel and a rigid inner hoop for the inside of the wheel, with 7mm chain (twisted 9mm chain for strength) suspended between the hoops. A built-in tensioning cord links both hoops, and there’s a spring-loaded tensioner, attached to the outside hoop, that takes up the slack at the touch of a lever and keeps the chain at optimum tension during the journey.
- The first thing you’ll notice is the smart zipped bag; this doubles as a kneeler when fitting and removing the chain – we’ve found that fitting and removal is easier if you place one knee on the ground for a few seconds. You use the ground clearance space to fit the chains, the space in the wheel arch between the bottom of the car and the ground.
- Then, if you’ve ever used snow chains before, you’ll be delighted to see that Reflex Edge are not in a tangle when they come out of the bag, unlike almost all other chains.
- You extend the the outer hoop, then put one hand on each red handle of the inner hoop, flex it wider, then push this inner hoop over the top of the wheel and move the red handles so they are behind the wheel, near ground level, and let go.
- Move the red catch on the tensioner - it's called the Reflex Box - to take up the slack, and drive slowly away. The inner hoop will tension as you drive off; there's no need to stop again to re-tension the chains.
You should be able to fit Reflex Edge in approximately 15 seconds a side, without effort, and without getting your hands or clothes dirty. Fantastic!
Removal:
- Stop the car with the Reflex Box back at approximately the 9 o’clock position, where it was when the chains were fitted.
- Move the red catch to the down position, grab both ends of the outer hoop at ground level and stretch them apart, which loosens the whole system. Then place a hand behind the wheel, near ground level, take hold of the one red end of the inner hoop, and pull the whole chain off the wheel.
- Lay out the chain so you won’t drive over it, then move the car back or forward by maybe one metre to free the piece of micro-cable that’s trapped behind the wheel.
- Shake the chains clear of snow and put them back in their bag.
These words might give the impression that this is a complex operation. Not at all; it’s both easy and intuitive. Check out the Fitting instructions and videos tab to see how it’s done!
Technical stuff:
- The chains stand 7mm high, both on the face of the tyre and behind it.
- They're approved to EN 16662-1:2020, and the Austrian Ö-Norm V5117 – which means that they’re approved for use across the EU, wherever snow chains must be carried, as well as other countries which have adopted the EN 16662-1:2020 standards, including Switzerland and Norway.
- Suitable for vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes gross vehicle weight.
- Nylon button studs are supplied and should be fitted as appropriate to help prevent the chains from scratching alloy wheels.
- The chains are made from case-hardened manganese nickel alloy steel (MnNi) to provide an optimum combination of strength and hardness. Please note that they will rust if not cleaned and dried correctly, as is true of all snowchains except Spikes-Spider SPORT - see the tab "Care of snowchains" for more information.
- A set of water-resistant instructions is included, together with spare links and plastic gloves.
- Reflex Edge are guaranteed for 5 years, but this does not cover normal wear and tear or accidental damage.
- Not recommended for off-road use.

Delivery FAQs
When will my order arrive?
There are no deliveries on Saturdays, Sundays or Bank Holidays, except for postable items where Royal Mail has a Saturday delivery. Express Delivery orders placed on a Friday (before 1pm) should be delivered on the Monday or Tuesday, Express Delivery orders placed on a Saturday or Sunday should be delivered on the Tuesday or Wednesday. The arrangements for Very Heavy Items are different and are shown above.
What about Next Working Day delivery?
Most Express delivery orders will arrive on the next working day, if the order is placed before the cut-off time (see above). Some will arrive on the second working day if there has been a "split-delivery". So-called “split deliveries” happen when the couriers do not have enough trailer space for everything that should be moved around the UK, so they will load what they can and leave the rest for the next trailer.
Is my delivery day guaranteed?
No retailer or courier company can ever "guarantee" a Next Working Day delivery. As well as split deliveries, all courier companies occasionally have the same transport problems as can happen to everyone else, including snow blocked roads, closed roads, traffic jams, mechanical breakdown, an inability to find the delivery address, or to gain access to it if, for example, it's in a block of flats. We work with some of the best couriers in the business, and overall they provide an outstanding service.
Do I need to be at home?
We are very flexible with our deliveries and will aim to deliver to an address which suits you – this does not need to be your home address. Goods can usually be left without signature - we prefer this with roof boxes. There's a "Special Delivery Instructions" box in the checkout area where we'll ask you to choose a typical instruction and then amend it to suit your particular requirements.

We take the following cards, and also PayPal. Please note that the entry on your card statement will be from "The Roof Box Company".

There are two parts to our snow chains offer this year:
(1) Clearance prices on many top branded snow chains, including RUD and Thule - an amazing opportunity for those who are quick off the mark! Thule (who are the biggest brand in the car racks market) have sold their snow chains division; the same chains are now being sold under the König brand. Thule branded chains have the same specifications as the König branded versions - all that has changed is the name on the chain and the name on the box.
(2) Multibuy discounts - significant discounts if you buy two pairs of snow chains at the same time, or one pair of chains and one pair of AutoSock: If you do either of these things, we will discount the snow chains as follows:
- König, Polaire and Spikes-Spider snow chains - at least 10% off!
- INNO, Maggi, RUD and Thule snow chains - at least 20% off! Up to 30% off where we have large overstocks.
As usual, you change the quantities in the Shopping Basket.
Many customers will, for example, use snow chains on their driving wheels for Alpine use, and use AutoSock on the non-driving wheels, especially if these are the steering wheels. Also note that AutoSock work very well in very wet snow, even on slush, where snowchains are often not suitable because they can't get any grip in the snow. So having both AutoSock and snowchains makes sense from at least two different perspectives.
