Why it's important to select the correct vehicle and tyre size
Vehicle
There are a surprising number of vehicles that cannot use traditional snowchains, the types that put chain on the inside of the wheel as well as on the tread. This is usually because there is not enough space between the wheels and the shock absorbers; this can be a problem for ordinary SUVs and 4x4s as well as for high performance cars.
You will find this important information in your car handbook - please check this before using your snowchains! Our database is intended to do the basic work for you but, with so many new vehicles and tyre sizes, it should only ever be treated as a guide.
Tyre size
Please also check your tyre size - if you buy incorrectly-sized chains they will be either too tight or too loose.
Ladder track chains
The good news is that car handbooks usually only refer to "traditional snowchains". Ladder track chains such as the Polaire GRIP and Spikes-Spider range only put chain over the tyre tread, so are not subject to these restrictions. They are also ideal for use on rear wheel drives where there is minimal space between the top of the wheel and the wheel arch.
It's really important to select the correct vehicle, paying attention to the year of the manufacture

A great sized roof box; loads of capacity without being too long. It still leaves you with the option of carrying bikes next to it on most roof bars. Features such as 'fast-grip' roof bar fittings and dual side opening make it really easy to fit and to use.
The Pacific 200 is good looking, well made and comes in a smart glossy black finish. It’s a popular size for people who still need to carry bikes on the roof but don't want a longer box. It offers a very useful saving over the Thule Motion 200 without sacrificing much in the way of quality. Key features and specifications: - Dual Side opening so you can choose to use it on either side of the vehicle, and to make for easier fitting and removal.
- There’s a Thule 'One Key System' compatible central locking system on each side of the box.
- "Fast-Grip" box to bar fittings. You just turn each wheel to draw the fitting claws around the roof bars, making this box easy to fit to both standard steel and aluminium roof bars, e.g. Atera and Thule – maximum dimensions 90mm wide by 38mm deep. Fast-Grips also make it easier to fit boxes to unusual shaped manufacturers’ “own brand” bars, but these bars must be symmetrical in shape for the Fast-Grips to work properly.
- If you're using aerobars, and want to maximise the space in the box, we recommend that you remove these fittings (remove one screw and they lift out very easily) and instead use Thule’s T-track aerobar adapters which provide an invisible box to bar fitting as well as allowing you to make full use of the box capacity. If you’re using Atera, Thule or Whispbars you will need the 697-4 adapters. If you have car manufacturer’s branded bars with a slot in the top of them, check the pop-up links below to work out which adapters to buy.
- Box weight 13kg. Before loading the box, check your vehicle's maximum permitted loading limit, taking into account the weight of the roof bars, the weight of the box, and the weight of the contents.
- Dimensions: External 178cm x 82cm x 45cm. Internal 172cm x 76cm x it depends on what you pack, and where, and whether you use Power Grips or aerobar adapters.
- Carrying skis? The Pacific 200 will hold 5 to 7 pairs of skis, maximum length 155cm. There’s a ski carrier accessory, part no. 694800, shown below.
- Roof bar geometry: The minimum distance between roof bar centres is 55cm, the maximum distance 95cm.
- Guarantee: 5 years, but click the sign for a note about Thule central locking systems:
- Fitting tips: A box is generally easier to load and unload if it's fitted towards the edge of a vehicle; you'll probably always be stretching if you fit it centrally. If you want to keep your roof box in pristine condition, don’t place or store it on tarmac, gravel or concrete.
- Packing tips: Our general advice on packing roof boxes is that bags / grips are much easier than suitcases. And if you can’t get your child’s buggy in the box, which is probably what you’d hoped for, and why you purchased a particular box, put the buggy in the boot and the luggage in the box. “I’ve bought the biggest box and my buggy doesn’t fit” is a frequent complaint!”

Delivery FAQs
When will my order arrive?
There are no deliveries on Saturdays, Sundays or Bank Holidays, except for postable items where Royal Mail has a Saturday delivery. Express Delivery orders placed on a Friday (before 1pm) should be delivered on the Monday or Tuesday, Express Delivery orders placed on a Saturday or Sunday should be delivered on the Tuesday or Wednesday. The arrangements for Very Heavy Items are different and are shown above.
What about Next Working Day delivery?
Most Express delivery orders will arrive on the next working day, if the order is placed before the cut-off time (see above). Some will arrive on the second working day if there has been a "split-delivery". So-called “split deliveries” happen when the couriers do not have enough trailer space for everything that should be moved around the UK, so they will load what they can and leave the rest for the next trailer.
Is my delivery day guaranteed?
No retailer or courier company can ever "guarantee" a Next Working Day delivery. As well as split deliveries, all courier companies occasionally have the same transport problems as can happen to everyone else, including snow blocked roads, closed roads, traffic jams, mechanical breakdown, an inability to find the delivery address, or to gain access to it if, for example, it's in a block of flats. We work with some of the best couriers in the business, and overall they provide an outstanding service.
Do I need to be at home?
We are very flexible with our deliveries and will aim to deliver to an address which suits you – this does not need to be your home address. Goods can usually be left without signature - we prefer this with roof boxes. There's a "Special Delivery Instructions" box in the checkout area where we'll ask you to choose a typical instruction and then amend it to suit your particular requirements.

Very few customers know much about the roof box market before they visit our site. We have a lot of information about the things to think about before buying, and the “real world usefulness" of various roof box features, but you’ll be buying sight unseen, and you probably won’t have used a roof box before, so there is inevitably some luck in getting a box that you’ll be happy with. We want to remove the risks of buying these large and often expensive items, perhaps from brands which almost every other roof box retailer doesn’t stock, and so we have a unique “90 day Exchange Scheme” for roof boxes. This allows you to use a roof box and, with the benefit of experience, to exchange it for a new one within 90 days of invoice date, only paying a contribution to our carriage costs. Most exchanges are from a shorter box to a longer one, or from a wider box to a narrower one. These are the rules of the Exchange Scheme: - You are allowed one exchange only.
- The original box must be in "as new" condition, subject only to fair wear and tear.
- The replacement box must be a different model. Not just an alternative colour.
- The replacement box must not be part of a package deal or be from our Bargains section.
- Roof bars are never part of the Exchange Scheme.
This is how the Exchange Scheme works: - We charge in full for the replacement box, including carriage charges, and a charge for any packaging needed for the return of the original.
- If you want us to collect the original box, there will be a £50 carriage charge (please note that regional surcharges may apply).
- We arrange the collection, if requested.
- When the original box arrives back here we refund you for the invoice value of the original box, but you won't get back more than the invoice value of the replacement box. In other words, if the replacement is cheaper than the original we won't be giving you "extra cash back".
Please note: we can only collect roof boxes from mainland UK.
